Egypt Considers Support for Saudi amid Houthi Tensions
Egypt has announced its full support for Saudi Arabia in the face of the ongoing military escalation between the Kingdom and the Houthi movement in Yemen. The Egyptian National Defense Council, headed by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, decided to provide all possible forms of support to defend Saudi Arabia’s security and stability, amid continued Houthi attacks on Saudi territory, including targeting Riyadh Airport and both civilian and military sectors. This comes within the context of the escalation of the Yemeni war, where the region has experienced shelling and exchanges of missile and drone attacks, with ongoing ground battles near the Bab al-Mandab Strait, a vital route for international trade. Additionally, regional and international diplomatic efforts are underway, including Egyptian parliamentary discussions to enable Egypt to support Saudi Arabia militarily if requested, in order to counter the increasing Houthi attacks and maintain stability in the region.
