Brazil presidential candidates clash
The campaign of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has filed a lawsuit before the courts to annul the candidacy of his rival, Flávio Bolsonaro. The bid is based on claims that Meta (formerly Facebook) interfered in the election by creating a favorable environment for Bolsonaro, through restricting access to campaign content for their candidate on Instagram and WhatsApp platforms. In response, Meta denied any intentional bias toward any party, explaining that technical issues caused some advertisements to be incorrectly halted. These developments come as Flávio Bolsonaro, the former president's son, leads in the polls and is engaged in a heated electoral campaign against President Lula, amid accusations from both sides. Judicial decisions have also imposed fines on Meta for failing to comply with court orders during the runoff vote scheduled for Sunday, which will determine Brazil's political future.
