UN warns of worsening flood and fire risks
A United Nations report has stated that global greenhouse gas emissions remained at record levels in 2025, with projections indicating that temperatures could rise between 2.6 and 2.8 degrees Celsius this century if current policies continue. This is despite governments' commitments to limit global warming to below 2 degrees Celsius and pursue the 1.5-degree target. The report highlights deadly consequences such as floods, severe heatwaves, and raging wildfires, while the chances of achieving the international goal continue to diminish. Under current policies, the planet’s temperature is projected to rise by 2.8 degrees Celsius.
