US courts order Meta to pay $25B for privacy breaches
A court in the state of New Mexico has ordered Meta to pay $25 billion due to violations of privacy laws in the Cambridge Analytica scandal. The ruling comes after the company was found guilty of exploiting data from over 43 million users to gather information for political advertisements during the 2016 presidential election, and of rejecting a settlement proposed by other states that would have required paying up to $16.68 billion and making changes to Facebook and Instagram platforms. This case is considered one of Meta's most significant privacy violations since the famous data scandal.
