Unexplained Blasts Near Hormuz
Sounds of explosions were heard in Hormozgan Province in southern Iran near the Strait of Hormuz, according to the official news agency "IRNA." The nature of the explosions or whether they were attacks or missile launches has not been specified. These explosions come after a period of relative calm in the tension between the United States and Iran, which began in February and has resulted in the deaths of senior officials, with Iran demanding control over the Strait of Hormuz—one of the most vital maritime routes, responsible for transporting about a fifth of the world's oil supplies. Meanwhile, the United States has imposed a blockade on Iranian ports and ships.
