Azerbaijan blocks 31 Turks over hijab ban
Azerbaijan has included 31 Turkish citizens, among them political, media, and religious figures, on its "undesirable persons" list, preventing them from entering its territory. This move comes in response to protests and social media calls against the decision to ban hijabs in Azerbaijani schools. This escalation follows Baku's adoption of new school dress code regulations that impose standards perceived as incompatible with the principle of secularism, leading to demonstrations and protests by veiled women in the capital and other cities. Turkish officials and activists expressed their outrage over the decision, viewing it as a restriction on freedoms, while the Azerbaijani authorities stated that the listed individuals undermined the country's sovereignty and national security, threatening further measures in the future.
