Russia employs games to build patriotism
The article discussed the National Games Competition launched by Russia in 2024 to promote national pride among children through locally-made toys and to promote narratives of Russian history from the Kremlin's perspective, especially amid the war with Ukraine. The activities include drawing traditional designs, building traditional models, and playing military-themed games, such as dolls bearing the slogan "You can't bring us down!" The initiative aims to instill a love for the homeland in an unforced manner through play and is supported by the government, which also offers facilities to help winners market their toys. Amnesty International criticized some educational policies, considering them ideological indoctrination, while Russian authorities believe that these efforts help strengthen national and historical values among children.
