Tunis plans 16% renewable energy by 2027
Tunisia is aiming to increase the share of renewable energy in its electricity mix to 16% by 2027, up from 12% in 2026. This is part of a development plan that exceeds 1,600 megawatts. The plan includes offering approximately 1,100 megawatts to international investors through licensing and operational projects, with 500 megawatts allocated for self-generation projects. Among the projects expected to be implemented are a 300-megawatt solar power plant and a 77-megawatt wind farm, in addition to a solar power plant equipped with a battery storage system in the region of Kebili. Tunisia aims to enhance energy security after a summer marked by frequent outages and protests, with a goal to generate 35% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030, primarily relying on natural gas.
