Moscow alerts Europe on gas ban
Russia's officials have called on the European Union to reconsider its plans to ban the import of Russian liquefied natural gas, citing declining gas inventories that have placed Europe in a difficult position. Although the EU intends to halt all Russian gas imports by the beginning of next year in response to the war in Ukraine, the continued decline in storage levels and the difficulties in replacing Russian gas could jeopardize those plans. Russia possesses the world's largest natural gas reserves and has begun shifting its supplies to China and India, but redirecting liquefied natural gas to European markets remains challenging. It has been confirmed that the resumption of gas supplies from Russia remains a possibility in the future, even as gas prices and burdens on the European market continue to rise.
