Donald Trump said in an interview with Fox News that there is currently no war underway with Iran, but warned that one could break out if no agreement is reached. He said he believes Tehran wants to reach a deal. On Monday, the U.S. military carried out limited strikes on Qeshm Island. Officials described them as a defensive measure in response to Iran firing toward a U.S. aircraft and as a means of protecting American assets. The island lies about 14 miles from Bandar Abbas and gives Iran the ability to influence shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, which carried around 20 million barrels of oil a day before the war. Trump and Vice President JD Vance pointed to diplomatic progress while keeping military options on the table.
