Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi discussed regional developments and efforts to contain tensions in a phone call on Thursday evening, amid fears of renewed military confrontations. Abdelatty called for diplomacy to prevail, flexibility to be shown and compromise solutions to be reached, in order to avoid an escalation with political, economic and humanitarian repercussions. The call came after Iran–U.S. negotiations on a final agreement stalled, despite an earlier ceasefire and memorandum of understanding reached this year.
