UN Secretary-General António Guterres sent a message to world leaders on the eve of the COP31 climate negotiations in Turkey, scheduled for November 9–20. He called for urgent action to cut emissions, warning that heatwaves, storms, floods and droughts are worsening as temperatures rise, while El Niño is further disrupting weather patterns. His forthcoming remarks are expected to be his final climate appeal as secretary-general, before his second and final term ends at the end of the year.
