Philippines Rejects Chinese Academics' Claims of Sovereignty over the Batanes Islands

The Philippines rejected the demands of a group of Chinese academics to affirm its sovereignty over the Batanes Islands, located at the northernmost tip of the country, asserting that these claims are baseless and conflict with its sovereign rights. This comes after Shandong University in China acknowledged that the islands are a geographical extension of Taiwan, which China considers part of its territory, reflecting escalating regional tensions between the two countries.
