New York Declares Measles Emergency

New York Governor Kathy Hochul declared a statewide disaster emergency over a measles outbreak, the first such declaration since 2025, as cases rise in rural communities. The state has reported 108 cases this year through October 3, with most in under-immunized areas, prompting expanded vaccination efforts and new measures allowing health professionals to administer vaccines more broadly. The US is experiencing its worst measles year since 1991, with nearly 3,900 cases nationwide.
