Al-Maghribi Discusses Egypt Cinema Power Struggles

The article addresses the crisis facing the Egyptian film industry, focusing on how foreign private funding is shifting from supporting creativity to becoming a tool for building influential power centers that may dominate the market and lead to the marginalization of independent productions and Egyptian artists. The article explains that rising costs and the concentration of financial resources are gradually marginalizing independent producers, raising concerns that multiple funding entities could emerge to control key aspects of the film industry. This poses a threat to production diversity and artistic independence. It also discusses how foreign funding contributes to strengthening influential power centers, directing production and distribution pathways, and monopolizing screening opportunities and platforms, thereby endangering the future of national cinema. The article emphasizes the need for transparency, fair competition, and the reassertion of the producer-artist's role to preserve the diversity and independence of Egyptian cinema.
