Avengers: Endgame surpasses Avatar

"Avengers: Endgame" has returned to the top of the global box office after grossing approximately $2.925 billion, surpassing "Avatar," which had achieved $2.923 billion since its initial release in 2009. This comeback came after its re-release in theaters in late September under the title "Avengers: Endgame Encore," which earned over $126 million worldwide, regaining the number one spot before the release of the new installment, "Avengers: Doomsday." This marks the second time "Endgame" has led the box office, after first ousting "Avatar" in 2019 and reclaiming the top position again in 2021 upon its re-release. Meanwhile, the "Avatar" franchise continues its success with the third installment, "Avatar: Fire and Ash," released in 2025, with plans for future releases including "Avatar 4" in December 2029 and "Avatar 5" in December 2031.
