Egypt Receives Full US Military Aid

The U.S. Department of State has announced that Egypt has been exempted from human rights-related conditions when receiving military assistance exceeding $300 million for the fiscal year 2025. This decision was made due to Egypt's valuable role following the Iran war, particularly in counterterrorism and border security. This move comes amid tensions between the two countries over Egypt's human rights record, as some of the aid had previously been withheld due to Egyptian violations. However, in 2024, full assistance totaling $1.3 billion was approved for the first time during the Biden administration. The American memorandum links this exemption to U.S. national security priorities, without specifying the nature of Egypt's beneficial role that led to this decision.
