Young stroke cases rise 80% over 27 years

Stroke cases among young people aged 20 to 54 in the Greater Cincinnati area and northern Kentucky increased by over 80% over 27 years, rising from approximately 34 cases per 100,000 people in the early 1980s to more than 62 cases in 2020. Despite this rise in incidents, the 30-day mortality rate after a stroke decreased during the same period, indicating improvements in diagnosis and treatment. However, the increase highlights growing health risks for young people, linked to factors such as lifestyle choices and chronic diseases.
