500 ex-diplomats criticize EU on settlements

About 500 former European diplomats and officials called on the European Union to act to stop a large-scale Israeli settlement project in the West Bank known as the E1 plan, which involves the construction of more than 1,200 housing units near Jerusalem. This project is considered illegal and further isolates East Jerusalem, threatening the prospects of establishing a future Palestinian state. They condemned the European Union's hesitation despite the significant implications and urged the imposition of sanctions and the presentation of legislative proposals to halt the financing and implementation of the project, especially during the upcoming meeting of EU foreign ministers on October 12.
