Italy Football Federation appoints presidential election date
The Italian Football Federation will hold elections to select its new president on December 14, 2026, amid a governance crisis following the Italian national team's failure to qualify for the World Cup for the third consecutive time. The frontrunner for this position is Giovanni Malago, who was appointed as an extraordinary commissioner by the Italian Olympic Committee after placing the federation under its oversight. This comes in the context of disturbances that led to the postponement of the election of a new president, with ongoing uncertainty regarding the legitimacy of the election and the management of the federation amid this crisis.
