Brazil Lula recovers momentum over Meta bias
The article discusses Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's efforts to regain electoral momentum ahead of the runoff vote scheduled for October 25. He has narrowed the gap with his right-wing opponent, Jair Bolsonaro, by boosting his presence on social media. Lula also called for equal treatment between the candidates by Meta, the company facing accusations of algorithm bias in favor of Bolsonaro. The Supreme Court has issued a ruling requiring Meta to ensure fair treatment for all candidates, following allegations that its artificial intelligence tools have unfairly reduced Lula's content reach and support. The court also imposed fines on the company if it fails to comply. Complaints suggest that Meta’s AI tools favor Bolsonaro, impacting the electoral promotion balance. Lula seeks to restore access and influence on these platforms to strengthen his chances of success in the decisive runoff.
