Veto blocks UN Secretary-General candidates

All candidates for the position of Secretary-General of the United Nations failed to secure unanimous support from the permanent members of the Security Council due to the use of the veto power by one of the council members, despite multiple efforts. The voting survey did not show any candidate who meets the approval of the five major powers, opening the door to new nominations. It is worth noting that the current candidates include four women and three men, and it is expected that the final nominee will come from Latin America, in accordance with diplomatic tradition. The process of selecting the Secretary-General requires the consensus of nine Security Council members and the avoidance of vetoes by the great powers before the name is referred to the General Assembly for final approval.
