Security Council prolongs DRC sanctions

The United Nations Security Council unanimously extended the sanctions regime against the Democratic Republic of the Congo until July 1, 2027, with the aim of pressuring armed groups and individuals involved in destabilizing the country. The resolution includes a ban on the supply of weapons, travel restrictions, and asset freezes for those listed by the sanctions committee. It also requires the expert team to submit periodic and final reports to the Council, emphasizing the protection of team members and holding responsible those accountable for the killing of team members in 2017.
