Benin adopts first bicameral system

Benin officially inaugurated its Senate for the first time in its history, following the transformation of the parliament from a single-chamber to a bicameral legislature through a constitutional amendment issued last December. The ceremony was held in the capital city of Porto-Novo, chaired by Elizabeth Pognon, who emphasized the importance of the council in the development of Benin’s political system.
