Trump Admin Halted Clean Energy Grants for Political Reasons
The Trump administration admitted in court that it canceled $7.6 billion in clean energy grants primarily based on the political alignment of the recipient states, favoring non-Blue states and targeting those that voted for Kamala Harris in the 2024 election. The Department of Energy acknowledged the decision was made solely on the states' political identity and not based on project merit or energy needs. This admission has led to accusations from Democrats and environmental groups of weaponizing federal funds for political punishment.
