FDA: Food Supply Remains Safe Amid Rise in Cyclosporiasis
Despite record-breaking cyclosporiasis cases in the U.S., health officials maintain that the food supply remains safe. Over 11,000 people have been affected this summer by outbreaks linked to contaminated produce, including iceberg lettuce from Mexico and other vegetables such as parsley and cilantro. Efforts to identify and remove contaminated products continue, but pinpointing sources of contamination remains challenging due to the parasite’s spread through human feces and difficulties tracing contamination back to specific farms.
