Cut Chemist shapes L.A. hip-hop
Cut Chemist, a renowned DJ and producer with a career spanning over 30 years, reflects on how his musical journey has been shaped by personal experiences and influential mentors. Inspired by childhood visions of “Star Wars” and fostered by encounters with pioneering hip-hop artists and global rhythms, he integrates imagery, cultural sounds, and experimental studio techniques into his work. His recent event series, “Expert of None,” explores these influences through discussions on music and imagery, culminating in his album “The Audience’s Listening,” which balances risk-taking with familiar collaborations.
