Critical Moment
A federal judge has cleared the Trump administration to end deportation protections for Ethiopian nationals under Temporary Protected Status (TPS), allowing the Department of Homeland Security to implement its plan following legal challenges. The judge ruled that DHS has the authority to terminate TPS designations, but also acknowledged claims that the termination may have been due to discrimination, allowing a related issue to proceed. The decision concludes a series of legal disputes after Ethiopia's TPS was first designated in December 2022 due to ongoing conflict and environmental issues.
