US, Canada seek to halt tariffs on Canadian exports
The U.S. and Canada are negotiating to prevent the imposition of 50% tariffs on Canadian exports, which President Trump threatened to implement if no agreement is reached before a midnight deadline. Talks involve discussions on trade issues, including tariffs on steel, aluminum, and softwood lumber, as well as U.S. efforts to boost military and mineral trade. The negotiations are complex, highlighting tensions amid Trump's use of tariffs to renegotiate trade agreements and exert economic pressure.
