LAPD killing of Trader Joe's manager results in murder conviction
Gene Atkins was convicted of provoking the gunfire that resulted in the death of Trader Joe’s manager in a 2018 LAPD shootout. Although he did not fire the shot that killed Melyda Corado, the jury found his actions led to the police firing into the store, causing her death. The incident began when Atkins shot two people, took a hostage, and engaged police in a violent chase outside the Silver Lake store.
