Recovering a Body Near Everest Summit
The article details the efforts to identify and potentially recover the remains of Dorje Morup, an Indian mountaineer known as "Green Boots," who died during an Everest ascent in 1996. DNA evidence confirmed Morup's identity last year, and India is now planning a risky expedition to retrieve his body from the mountain's high-altitude ice zone, aiming to give him a proper farewell. The mission faces significant technical, diplomatic, and cultural challenges, including the need for cooperation from China and considerations of mountaineering safety.
