Abelardo de la Espreía, the hardline right-wing figure, assumed his new position as the President of Colombia amidst high security measures in Cali. He chose the city for his inauguration instead of the capital, Bogotá, a move that reflects the rising right-wing trend in the region. De la Espreía pledged to combat armed groups and drug trafficking, with support from Washington and Israel. He focused on ending previous peace negotiations, aiming to strengthen relations with the United States amid concerns over potential collateral damage to civilians due to military operations. The decision to hold the ceremony in Cali highlights increasing security tensions. His presence was attended by more than ten heads of state and international delegations, amid expectations of unprecedented measures to enhance security and stability.
