Cabinet Media Center tracks informal settlement changes
Before the anniversary of June 30, slum areas in Egypt were characterized by the widespread presence of unsafe environments lacking basic services, with deteriorating infrastructure and an increase in unregulated informal markets. After June 30, the state adopted a comprehensive plan to eliminate these areas, successfully addressing 357 unsafe informal neighborhoods and providing suitable housing for approximately 1.2 million citizens. The government is currently targeting the development of 152,000 feddans of unplanned land at a cost of up to 318 billion Egyptian pounds, in addition to upgrading informal markets at a cost of 44 billion Egyptian pounds by 2030, with the aim of improving quality of life and achieving sustainable development.
