New charges have been brought against former Banque du Liban Governor Riad Salameh, involving financial crimes including embezzlement and illicit profit. He has been accused alongside a former banker, Sir Hanna, the former President of Bank Audi Lebanon, of embezzling tens of millions of dollars from the central bank and accepting bribes during Salameh's tenure. This is the first time that investigations have expanded to include the private sector, reflecting increased scrutiny of the financial crimes committed during Salameh's three-decade term, despite his denial of any wrongdoing and his refusal to comment.
