Indonesia's WHO candidate urges US to rejoin
Indonesian Health Minister and candidate for the position of Director-General of the World Health Organization, Budi Gunadi Sadikin, called on the United States to return to the organization after its withdrawal earlier this year. He emphasized that the United States plays a vital role within the UN-affiliated organization, and its return is essential for effectively combating pandemics. Several candidates are competing to succeed Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, as the organization has lost its biggest financial supporter following Washington's withdrawal, which was prompted by criticisms of its management during the COVID-19 pandemic.
