Reclaiming a Poet's Story
The poet Khalaf Jaber said his book, *In Search of Riyadh al-Salih al-Hussein*, is the fruit of years of research. It aims to present a documented biography of the late Syrian poet, free of the myths and conflicting accounts that have surrounded his life. Jaber drew on the poet’s archive and on accounts from his family, friends, and writers who knew him, comparing recollections and documents to reconstruct key moments in his life and his final days. The research also uncovered a varied collection of Hussein’s journalism, including interviews, literary articles, and film criticism—a side of his work that had not been widely known.
