CNN reported that Donald Trump has privately acknowledged the possibility of Republicans suffering a major defeat in the midterm elections, amid polls pointing to Democratic gains that could give them control of both chambers of Congress. Trump has at times, however, expressed optimism that the results could be better than expected. Democrats need three additional seats to take control of the House of Representatives and a net gain of four seats to take the Senate. Polling places in New York’s Westchester County experienced problems with ballot-scanning machines affecting as many as 250,000 ballots; the votes will be counted after the polls close.
