Tensions around Qeshm Island
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that it had shot down a U.S. MQ-1 drone over Qeshm Island using an air-defense system, amid rising tensions with Washington. It also said it had brought down two MQM-170 reconnaissance drones, bringing the number of drones of that type it has seized to four. Qeshm lies at the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz, giving it strategic importance for monitoring maritime traffic and the transport of oil and gas.
