Ebola toll exceeds 5,000
The Democratic Republic of the Congo has recorded more than 5,000 deaths and 10,060 Ebola cases since the outbreak was detected in May. It has spread to 8 of the country’s 26 provinces, with cases also reported in Kenya, Nigeria and Uganda. The World Health Organization has warned that the outbreak, which spans parts of Africa, will be difficult to contain. Meanwhile, the DRC and Russia are discussing how to fast-track the registration of a Russian vaccine that has yet to receive the necessary approvals.
