Iraq's Dream of Ending Illiteracy
Iraq is striving to achieve the dream of completely eradicating illiteracy through strategic steps, including supporting government institutions, amending illiteracy laws, and launching a nationwide campaign. Despite previous successes and the training of a large number of learners, Iraq faces challenges in funding, as no dedicated budget has been allocated since 2014, hindering the expansion of programs and the scaling up of educational centers. In the 2025/2026 academic year, the number of learners reached 58,438, including 14,129 in the completion phase and 15,453 in sixth grade. The eradication effort relies heavily on governmental effort and sufficient funding to ultimately achieve Iraq's goal of complete literacy.
