The recent series of explosions heard off the coast of Iran's Qeshm Island comes within the context of escalating tensions between Iran and the United States. The latter has adjusted its mechanism for protecting commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz, reducing the duration of military protection provided to passing vessels, and has asked tankers to choose specific times for crossing rather than offering round-the-clock protection, in an attempt to counter potential Iranian attacks. American officials also indicated that their forces have redirected 100 ships over the past sixty days. These American measures aim to safeguard the oil flow and counter hostile activities in the region.
