The study highlights the association between the use of weight loss medications and an increased risk of depression and suicidal thoughts. The results indicated that users were 93% more likely to report depression and 168% more likely to experience suicidal thoughts compared to non-users. Additionally, regaining weight after losing it—especially when exceeding 10 kg—increases the likelihood of suicidal thoughts by up to 267%. The study calls for further research to determine the causal relationship between weight loss medications and mental health, emphasizing that the findings do not establish a direct cause-and-effect link between the medications and these issues.
