The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that it has downed an American drone of the "MQ-1" model over the Strait of Hormuz, in an escalation linked to the ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran in the region. They indicated that the Iranian air defense system detected the aircraft before targeting it. This comes amidst an escalation in military actions and increased hostilities between the two sides, especially as negotiations over energy supplies and maritime security in the strait have deteriorated.
