Security expert Bashir al-Daaja described the smuggling of automatic weapons into Jordan using hot-air balloons as a dangerous development. He explained that the operation requires planning the balloons’ route and accounting for the direction and speed of the wind to deliver the shipment to its recipients. He added that flying at low altitudes makes the balloons difficult to detect, even with advanced radar, though this does not mean there is a flaw in surveillance systems. He stressed the importance of continuing the investigation and intelligence work to identify the parties and individuals involved, as preliminary investigations are still under way.
