The Ministry of Social Development announced that nearly 8,000 beggars had been apprehended from the beginning of the year through the end of October. A total of 4,865 campaigns conducted through the end of September had resulted in 7,174 people being apprehended. Riyad Arabiyat, director of the Anti-Begging Department, said the cases included a woman found with $46,600 and children, some of whom collected more than 80 dinars a day. He noted that human trafficking cases had been referred to the courts. He urged citizens to direct donations to licensed charities and report cases of begging via the hotline: 0793344330.
