UN: Burmese military killed 700+ civilians
The United Nations Human Rights Office announced that the Burmese army killed at least 702 civilians during the electoral period between August and January, with 505 deaths resulting from airstrikes carried out using fighter jets and drones. It also noted a sharp increase in the number of casualties during two periods linked to the election date and the military's advances on the battlefield, with 224 women and 153 children among the victims. The statement added that the killings and violations occurred amid widespread insecurity and military interference, calling on the international community to refer the situation to the International Criminal Court.
