Language's role in shaping perception
The article discusses how language influences our perception of the world, providing examples of how words, grammatical patterns, geographical imagery, temporal memories, and political events create a different image of reality. It explains that language is not merely a tool for transmitting information, but rather a set of glasses that directs our attention and shapes how we perceive things, thereby affecting how we remember and evaluate them—such as in how we express responsibility or describe crises. The article emphasizes that the absence of precise terminology for events or the use of misleading words can hinder our understanding and obscure the significance of events. It warns against adopting borrowed terms that hide the truth and advocates for creating words that accurately reflect our reality, thereby enabling us to see the world clearly.
