Rachaya Prison goes on strike amid inmate protests
Eighteen inmates from Rachaya Prison in Lebanon initiated an open strike, refusing food and medication in protest against the suspension of the general amnesty law. As a result, the total number of detainees on strike in prisons has risen to 544 prisoners, including seniors and individuals suffering from chronic illnesses. The Prisoners' Families Committee has urged the prison administration to refrain from using any coercive measures or physical confrontations with them, and called for providing healthcare and protection. They also emphasized the prisoners' right to peaceful protest. This development comes amid a escalation wave against the government, following the failure to pass the amnesty law.
