Roman Catholic Synod: Rights and Issues
The Holy Synod of the Maronite Catholic Church was held in Rome from October 6 to 10 to discuss issues facing the community and its challenges. The church community is confronted with numerous responsibilities, including the selection of suitable bishops, announcing the celebratory Mass to honor Father Bashar Abu Murad as a martyr, and addressing the financial crises affecting the parishes. Emphasis was also placed on social and security challenges in the region, the impact of artificial intelligence, the decline in priestly vocations, internal conflicts, and some cultural challenges. The new document, titled "Mutual Concord," was described as a significant milestone in the church’s path of change, aiming to eliminate selfishness and power, and to establish a new human being characterized by humility and transparency. It also calls for renewing the church’s message and strengthening holiness and service.
