Japan protests US soldier's detention
Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaiashi strongly protested to the United States following the arrest of a U.S. Marine in Okinawa on suspicion of killing a Japanese woman (Anna Yaji, 39 years old) and stealing her belongings. Corporal Deven Jacob Belard (20 years old) was taken into custody and denied the charges against him, which angered the Japanese government. They demanded full cooperation in the investigation and called for stricter discipline measures to prevent such incidents from recurring. This incident comes after a series of cases involving the conduct of American soldiers in Okinawa, where approximately 18,000 U.S. troops are stationed, fueling widespread local anger.
